Treatise on the fugue by Andre . Gedalge Download PDF EPUB FB2

I first came across Andre Gedalge's Treatise on Fugue when I was a senior at college studying music. Having a serious love for fugal music and technique, I searched far and wide for a true, no nonsense, serious text.

My search was over with this book. I still go over the course every couple of years/5(2). Most of the analysis of fugue is based on J. Bach as a model although one would be amazed at all of the French composers the author investigated, mostly those who never excelled in counterpoint like Faure, DuBois, Vidal, Thomas, Massenet, etc.

Overall, I suspect that School Fugue is an attempt to straight jacket the subject like the Procrustean Bed analogy/5(2). [Percy Goetschius]. “The Art of the Fugue” (Die Kunst der Fuge), as its name implies, was intended and effectively provides, a complete treatise on the art of fugal composition, dealing with every type of fugal treatment from the simplest to the most complex. It may be supposed that Bach had intended to have this work published under his instruction.

The Fugue, by Chicago writer Gint Aras, weaves an elegant composition of the experiences of two families across the generations.
